RELATIVE TO THE FIESTA OF THE SANTO NINO DE CEBU |

Resolution WHEREAS, The festival honoring the Santo Nino de Cebu has been recognized as one of the most beautiful in the State of California and the United States and an event of which not only Filipinos but all American are proud; and WHEREAS, This joyous event is both a celebration and a public recognition of the continuing friendship and outstanding achievements of Filipino-Americans in the community; and WHEREAS, The devotion to the Santo Nino is means of inspiring the highest values in upholding sacred traditions of Philippine culture and heritage; and WHEREAS, The yearly religious rites which are the object of pilgrimages from people of all walks of life, have been given more meaning and spiritual significance with its celebration in San Francisco, California, in the sense that the annual veneration of the Santo Nino de Cebu has erased territorial boundaries and spanned great oceans; and WHEREAS, The Fiesta of the Santo Nino de Cebu in the United States has been recognized as an outgrowth from the Basilica Minore, Cebu City, Philippines; and WHEREAS, The members of the Cebu Association of California, Inc., have set an excellent example in bringing Americans of Filipino descent to the forefront of responsible citizenship and active participation in our society, and Californians are enriched by the colorful culture and continuance of the traditions and heritage of the Filipino people; and WHEREAS, Through the tireless efforts of its Founder, President Emeritus, and World Emissary, Commissioner Sally B. Famarin of San Francisco, the Santo Nino de Cebu has been enthroned at St. Joseph's Church in San Francisco and a marble altar shrine has been built for the Miraculous Image in what is now the largest Filipino church in the United States, a historical landmark of San Francisco, and has brought national distinction to Filipino-Americans; and WHEREAS, Government and ecclesiastical officials in the United States and the Republic of the Philippines have recognized the Fiesta of the Santo Nino as having played an important part in fostering the spirit of respect and understanding which exists between the people of the Philippines and the United States; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED BY THE SENATE RULES COMMITTEE, That the Members express their appreciation for the unique opportunity which the Fiesta of the Santo Nino de Cebu has provided for all Californians to learn more about the outstanding contributions which the citizens of Filipino descent have made to this state and the nation; and be it further RESOLVED, That a suitably prepared copy of this resolution be transmitted to the Members of the Cebu Association of California, INC.
